Old Potrero Single Malt Straight Rye is a rye whiskey bottled at 48.5% ABV.
It was aged in new, handmade, fine grain American oak barrels that are charred on the inside. In traditional barrel making the cooper heats the staves over a fire of oak chips to bend them, which lightly toasts the wood. By the early 19th century coopers had learned that letting the heat continue would char the barrel. Barrels charred this way give the rye a rich colour and a distinct character.
