Pellegrino Sweet Marsala (75cl, 18%)

Pellegrino Sweet Marsala is a sweet fortified wine from the Marsala DOC in Sicily, made by Cantine Pellegrino, a house founded in 1880 in the city of Marsala. It is blended from the Sicilian white grapes Catarratto, Grillo and Inzolia. The fully fermented base wine is fortified with grape spirit, sweetened with mosto cotto (cooked-down grape must) and aged for more than a year in oak casks. The colour is bright amber, with toffee, toasted nuts and dried fruit on the nose, and vanilla and warm spice beneath. The palate is rich, with date, fig, golden sultana and praline, lifted by a bergamot-like citrus note. The finish is moderately long and spiced, drying gradually, with roasted nuts and candied orange peel.
