This is The Village, number 14 in Penderyn's Icons of Wales series, in a 70cl bottle. It is a Welsh single malt finished in Amarone casks.
The name refers to Portmeirion, built between 1925 and 1973 by the Welsh architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis. The village was the setting for the cult television series The Prisoner.
The nose shows ripe fruit, oak spice, vanilla, cocoa and soft honey. The palate has red berries, ripe plums and soft spice with honeyed sweetness. The finish is long and warming, with candied fruit, spiced oak and a grip of grape tannins.
