Penderyn – 'The Headliner' (Icons of Wales #9) (46%)

The Headliner is the ninth release in Penderyn's Icons of Wales series. It is named after David Lloyd George (1863-1945), the only Welsh prime minister, who was behind the Immature Spirits Act 1915, which required whisky to mature for at least three years. The whisky was matured in Jamaican rum and port casks and bottled at 46%, not chill-filtered. The nose is of fresh cherries and summer berries with creamy oatcakes, oaky vanilla and baking spices. On the palate there is fruitcake with a touch of caramel, drying green oak and peppery spice. The finish is dry, with plenty of sweet fruit.
