Pio Cesare Ornato is a single-vineyard Barolo made from Nebbiolo, here from the 2020 vintage. It comes from three plots of the Pio Cesare family's Ornato estate in Serralunga d'Alba, and it was the house's original single-vineyard bottling, first made with the 1985 vintage.
The wine is structured and concentrated, with firm tannins and dense, dark fruit. Production was 12,325 bottles.
On the nose there are ripe black cherry, cinnamon spice, blood orange zest and a touch of bay leaf. The palate shows blackberry, damson plum, dark chocolate and vanilla, with a rusty mineral note and dark licorice typical of Serralunga. The finish is long.
