Planteray Barbados 5 Year Old is an aged rum from Barbados, bottled at 40% vol. It is a blend of rums distilled in both column and pot stills.
The rum spends five years maturing in two stages: first in bourbon casks close to the Barbadian coast, then in ex-cognac casks from France.
The nose is ripe tropical fruit, soft vanilla and caramel, with white peach, coconut and candied citrus emerging over time. The palate is round and smooth, with toffee, honey, brown sugar and a little nutmeg, and a restrained woody structure. The finish is fairly long and warming, with spice, toasted wood and lingering vanilla.
