Pōkeno First Fill Bourbon & PX New Zealand Single Malt Whisky (70cl, 55.8%)

This is a New Zealand single malt from Pōkeno Distillery, a double wood vatting of malts fully matured in first-fill bourbon barrels and in PX sherry hogsheads. The two were then married for several months in a PX hogshead. It is bottled at 55.8%. The distillery sits in a misty valley among volcanic hills, and uses natural spring water and barley from three family-owned farms on the South Island. Citrus, dark chocolate and dried fruit come first on the nose. The palate is led by black forest gâteau and deep PX notes, and the finish is long.
