Port Askaig 12 Year Old Autumn Edition is a limited-edition Islay single malt in a 70cl bottle, bottled at 45.8% ABV. The distillery sits on the north-east coast of Islay, close to the village of Port Askaig, and the whisky is non-chill-filtered.
It is a vatting of nine refill American oak hogsheads, five Oloroso sherry butts made from a mix of American and European oak, and three solera sherry butts made from American oak. The result mixes smoky, fruity and coastal notes.
The nose moves from Wensleydale cheese with cranberries to smoky bacon crisps, cherry liqueur and boiled Christmas pudding. On the palate come red grapes, smouldering wood chips and dried seaweed. The finish is salty and spicy, with berry tea and stewed plums.
