This is an Islay single malt from Port Askaig, bottled by Elixir Distillers at 50.5% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It matured only in Oloroso sherry butts, with 20 casks from the Spanish cooperage Jose y Miguel Martin going into this small batch.
It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour. Sultanas, dark chocolate and orange sit alongside spice, dense coal smoke and a maritime saltiness.
The nose combines smoked plum jam, sultanas, navel orange and liquorice, with peppery seared meat, porcini, caramel and blackcurrant. On the palate come coal smoke, ashy peat, cherries with dark chocolate and a medicinal note. The finish is long and warming, with cocoa nibs, dried mint and pepper.
