Port Charlotte PAC: 01 is an Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, distilled in November 2011 and bottled at a batch strength of 56.1%. It was assembled from two parcels, and it follows the 2010 release, Port Charlotte OLC: 01.
The first parcel spent six years in first-fill ex-American whiskey casks, the second seven years, and each then had two further years in casks that had held red wine from Pauillac. The second parcel's finish was in second-fill casks.
The nose combines fresh fruit, dry peat smoke, clove, ginger and cinnamon with toasted malt, toffee and chocolate. The palate is sweet and malty with smoke, citrus, dried fruit, marzipan and caramel. The finish brings earthy barbecue smoke, a medicinal note, coconut and floral, maritime touches.
