Port Charlotte PMC:01 is a heavily peated Islay single malt and the sixth edition of the Cask Exploration Series. It is the first Port Charlotte matured in Pomerol red wine casks. Made from Scottish Concerto barley and distilled in 2013, it spent four years in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, then five more in ex-Pomerol casks from 2017, all on Islay. It was bottled in 2023 at 54.5%, non-chill-filtered and uncoloured.
The nose offers warm peat smoke, red fruit, stewed pear, melon and a light maritime note. The palate is viscous, with malt sweetness, blackberry, plum and old leather. The finish is gentle and maritime, with crushed shell, lemon peel and lingering peat smoke.
