Port Charlotte PMC: 01 is a nine-year-old Islay single malt, distilled in 2013 and bottled at 54.5% in a 70cl bottle. It is the sixth edition of the Cask Exploration series and the first to mature in Pomerol casks.
It spent the second half of its maturation in Pomerol wine casks from Bordeaux. The peating level is 40 ppm, which places it among the heavily peated malts.
The nose opens with dark fruit and earthy peat smoke, with floral gorse and a touch of oak. The palate is full and powerful, with peat smoke, coconut, tobacco, honey and pepper. The finish is long and smoky, with lingering peat smoke, coconut and honey.
