Port Charlotte SYC:01 is a peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, and the first Port Charlotte in the Cask Exploration series. It was matured mainly in Syrah casks from a French producer of organic and biodynamic wines. The Syrah adds red fruit and layers of spice to the smoky character of Port Charlotte.
The nose opens with caramel sweetness, then strawberries, red apples, apricot jam and mixed berries, with oak and lasting smoke beneath. On the palate, toasted oak and barbecue smoke meet sweet fruit, candied peel, fresh mango, brown sugar and sweet bubblegum. The finish keeps its fruit and oak sweetness, with a soft wave of peat smoke, roasted Brazil nuts, coconut, cocoa powder and a trace of dried seaweed.
