This is a 24 year old Port Ellen, distilled in 1978 and bottled as the second release in Diageo's annual Special Releases series. It is an Islay single malt in a 70cl bottle. Port Ellen stopped producing whisky in 1983, and its smoke is described as maritime, with a sharp lemon note, light tar and some oiliness in the texture. The nose is floral, with hints of lavender and some peat. The palate is very chewy, with pipe tobacco, Parma violet and lavender, and the finish lingers for a long time.
