This is Port Ellen 27 Year Old, the sixth release in the Diageo Special Releases series. The Islay single malt was distilled in 1978 and bottled in 2006 at 54.2% ABV, in a 70cl bottle. Only 4,650 bottles were produced.
Lemon, orange and green apple aromas add a touch of fruit, while the palate shows peppery smoke and maritime character over an oily, textured base.
Tasting notes list exotic fruit, menthol, sweet smoke, honey and bacon on the nose. The palate is salty and sweet with tropical fruit, building smoke and pepper, and the finish is salty and smoky with lemon, oak and a fatty note.
