Port Ellen 28 Year Old is the seventh release in the Diageo Special Releases series, an Islay single malt distilled in 1979 at the now-silent Port Ellen distillery and bottled in 2007.
It was matured in refill American oak casks and bottled at a natural cask strength of 53.8%. 5,274 bottles were released, in 70cl.
Smoke leads the nose, with eucalyptus, bog myrtle, vetiver, spent barbecue charcoal and salt air. The palate is sweet and oily, with oyster liquor and a salty wave, and the finish is very long.
