This is the ninth release in the annual Diageo Special Releases series: a 30-year-old Port Ellen from Islay, distilled in 1979 and bottled in 2009 at a natural cask strength of 57.7%. The edition ran to 5916 bottles, each in a 70cl size, and it was the first Port Ellen in the series to reach thirty years.
The nose is citrusy and maritime, with ash, brine, light peat smoke, pear, green apple and menthol. On the palate, smoky ash meets intense lemon and orange, a little dryness and a pepper note. The medium-long finish brings honey, ashy smoke and tobacco leaf.
