This is a 32 year old Port Ellen from Islay, distilled in 1983 and issued as the 15th release in the Diageo Special Releases series. It matured in bourbon oak casks and was bottled in a run of 2,964 bottles. Port Ellen is a silent distillery, and this release is described as a big, dark, tarry and savoury peated malt. The nose opens with red apple and wine pears over a waxy, mineral base of warm sand, sea air, seaweed and campfire ash. The palate is sweet, tangy and dry, with wood ash, burnt jam tarts, treacle and caramelised oranges. The finish is long and herbaceous, marked by wood smoke.

About Glenbotal

The idea of Glenbotal came to us naturally: as whisky lovers, we were always on the lookout for new experiences in the whisky world. That’s why we created Glenbotal and became our very own first customers. We buy unique and hard to find spirits from ballots and private collections. Then, we share them with a small circle of friends and people who can appreciate a good dram.
