This is a 34-year-old Port Ellen, an Islay single malt distilled in 1978 and bottled in 2013 as the 13th release in the Diageo Special Releases series. A total of 2,958 bottles were produced. The nose is oily and petrolly, with nectarines, peaches and pine needles as it opens, and peat in the background. The palate is restrained, with mild vanilla and muted smoke that build to more smoke in a long finish, while fruit comes and goes at the tail end.
