This is a 36 year old Port Ellen single malt from a single sherry cask, bottled in 2019 in a 70cl bottle. It is one of 638 bottles and the first release in Hunter Laing's three-part Eidolon series, which celebrates the Islay distillery.
It was distilled in 1983, the final year of production at Port Ellen, and matured for more than three decades.
The nose offers plenty of sherry with citrus and a touch of smoke. The palate is elegant, with citrus fruits such as grapefruit and lime, wrapped in well-integrated peat.
