Quarter Deck Caroni 24 Year Old 1998 (70cl, 50.7%)

This is a single cask Trinidadian rum, distilled in 1998 at the Caroni Distillery and matured for 24 years before bottling at 50.7% in a 70cl bottle. Caroni closed in 2002, and its rum is known for a bold, tarry, industrial style. It is bottled non-chill filtered, without colouring or additives. On the nose it is deep and commanding, with oak tar, diesel and burnt sugar over dark molasses, leather and dried tropical fruit. The palate is full-bodied and oily, with dark cocoa, liquorice, charred oak, stewed fruit and tobacco. The finish is very long, with smoke, tar and spice easing into sweetness and oak tannin.
