Raasay Hungarian Oak Limited Release

Raasay Hungarian Oak is a limited single malt from Isle of Raasay Distillery, the third release in its Oak Species Maturation Series, which focuses on the species of oak. This one uses Hungarian Quercus petraea from the Zemplén Mountains, in the form of seasoned ex-Oloroso sherry barriques rather than virgin oak. Peated and unpeated spirit, both made from 100% Scottish barley, are matured separately in these casks. Hungarian oak is known for slow growth and tight grain. The whisky is described as deep and balanced, with spice, sweetness and smoke layered together.
