This is a high rye straight bourbon from Rabbit Hole, made with imported German rye and bottled at 47.5% ABV. The mash bill is 70% corn, 25% malted rye and 5% malted barley, and the whiskey was aged for just under four years in toasted and charred new oak barrels.
It is named after Christian Heigold, a German stonecutter who settled in Louisville before 1850 and decorated his home with patriotic carvings.
The malted rye gives butterscotch and toasted malt, then a burst of citrus, and it finishes with a comforting pepper spice.
