Royal Lochnagar 12 Year Old is a Highland single malt matured for twelve years in oak casks, in a 70cl bottle at 40% vol. The distillery stands close to Balmoral Castle, the royal family's summer home in Scotland. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert visited it several times, and the Royal in the name comes from that connection.
It has been part of Diageo's Classic Malts Selection since 2005, and the whisky is amber in colour.
The nose is sweet caramel with grain, spice and a fresh note. On the palate it is medium-bodied and oily, with caramel cream, wood and spice that turn drier. The finish is medium in length, with sandalwood and spice.
