Royal Lochnagar – Special Release 16 Year Old (70cl)

This is a 16 year old Highland single malt from Royal Lochnagar, in a 70cl bottle. It is the Spring Stallion release, a gold-coloured malt built around a story of the end of winter on Royal Deeside. The distillery has a long history on the river. The first licensed Lochnagar was founded in 1826 and burnt down soon afterwards. Begg rebuilt it in 1845 on the south bank as New Lochnagar. The nose brings orange peel and green apple over a mossy base. The palate is rich and creamy, with barley-sugar sweetness and a lush fruity acidity. Water draws out white grape and smooths it further. The finish is long, soft and clear.
