Royal Salute 21 Year Old Sapphire Flagon 1960s (76.9cl)

This is Royal Salute 21 Year Old, a blended Scotch whisky, in the Sapphire-coloured edition, from the 1960s. It comes in a Spode decanter, or flagon, holding 26 fl oz (769ml). The flagon was made by Chivas Brothers to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, and Royal Salute takes its name from the 21 gun salute. The whisky is said to have its home at the Strathisla distillery. The notes describe a hint of smoke and honey over a malty backdrop, then caramel and toffee, with a deep, toasty richness and a subtle spiciness of dill, tarragon and cardamom.
