This is Royal Salute 21 Year Old, a blended Scotch whisky, in the Sapphire-coloured edition, from the 1970s. It is presented in a Spode decanter, or flagon, made by Chivas Brothers.
The flagon was created to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Royal Salute was first made in 1953 and takes its name from the 21 gun salute. Its home is said to be the Strathisla distillery.
The notes describe a hint of smoke and honey over a malty backdrop, followed by caramel and toffee and a deep, toasty richness, with subtle spice from dill, tarragon and cardamom.
