Ruadh Maor is the smoky line from Glenturret in the Highlands, and this bottling is an 8 year old single malt distilled in 2012 and bottled at 47.5% by Càrn Mòr. The name is Gaelic for red guardian.
The whisky matured in refill PX sherry hogsheads.
The nose opens with fruity, bacon-like aromas, prunes wrapped in bacon and fried, then campfire, tobacco, leather and nuts on a hot hob. The palate is caramel and smoke with an oily, creamy texture, at first recalling a well-known island off Scotland's west coast before turning soft and round, with tobacco and tropical fruit. The finish is long, with warm smoke like a dying campfire, oak and ashy peat.
