Saburomaru – V The Hierophant 2021/2024 Heavily Peated (70cl, 48%)

Saburomaru V The Hierophant is a heavily peated Japanese single malt from the Saburomaru distillery in Toyama Prefecture, which has been making smoky whisky since 1952. It was distilled in 2021 and bottled in 2024 at 48%, in a 70cl bottle. The spirit combines a classic whisky yeast with a specially cultivated, matured ale yeast, and uses heavily peated Islay malt. The whisky is a bright yellow-gold, non-chill-filtered and free of added colouring. The nose offers fresh apple and pear with floral touches and a delicate honey sweetness. On the palate, dense smoke meets roasted chestnuts and maple syrup.
