Saburomaru III The Empress is a Japanese single malt distilled in 2020 and bottled in 2023 at 48% ABV. It is a limited release, and the first from the Saburomaru distillery to use malt dried over Islay peat, at a phenol level of 50 ppm.
After three years of maturation, the palate shows malty sweetness with roasted nuts and caramelised fruit, supported by fine oak spice and black pepper.
It is heavily peated, not chill-filtered and free of added colour, in a 70cl bottle.
