Saburomaru VI The Lovers is a cask strength Japanese single malt from Saburomaru Distillery in Toyama Prefecture, bottled in 2025 at 59% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It is the seventh release in the distillery's Tarot-themed series.
The whisky brings together two peated malts: Highland peat distilled in 2020 and Islay peat distilled in 2021, aged for roughly four to five years. The Islay malt adds maritime notes and the Highland malt an earthy character.
The nose is smoky, with vanilla, roasted nuts and barbecue notes. On the palate smoke leads, alongside vanilla wafers, smoked cheese, pineapple and honey. The finish carries soft smoke, sweet and spicy tones and a salty tang.
