Mars Komagatake 40th Anniversary Special Edition is a single malt from the Japanese distillery founded in 1985, released to mark its fortieth year.
It is a blend of stocks from the 1980s, 1990s, 2010s and 2020s, leaving out the 2000s, when the distillery was dormant. The whisky matured in bourbon casks, sherry casks and American white oak.
The nose brings ripe apricot and melon with a light agave sweetness, then soft vanilla and gentle wood. On the palate come raisins, chestnut and toasted almonds, with cinnamon and dark chocolate. The finish is long and balanced, mildly sweet with an elegant, spicy bitterness.
