Scarabus is an Islay single malt from the independent bottler Hunter Laing of Glasgow, bottled here at a cask strength of 57% ABV. The name is Gaelic for 'rocky place' and comes from a mystical spot on Islay.
The nose is reserved at first, then shows peaty, iodine-like aromas with a clear sea breeze. The palate has more peat smoke than the nose, with the strength well integrated and soft. The smoke turns drier and ashier, followed by vanilla, leather and oak. The finish is long and peaty, with a little vanilla and oak.
