Scarabus is a ten-year-old Islay single malt from Hunter Laing, bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. It is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour.
The name was first used for the Feis Ile of 2019. Hunter Laing had built the new Ardnahoe distillery on Islay, but it had no whisky of its own yet, so this malt was bottled as Scarabus for visitors to taste and buy. As an independent bottler, Hunter Laing could choose from a wide range of casks.
The nose offers sea salt, leather, menthol and plenty of smoke. The palate brings more leather and smoke with a little golden syrup behind. The finish is long, peaty, round and smooth.
