Seagram's VO is a blended Canadian whisky aged for a minimum of six years in oak barrels, bottled at 40% in a 750ml bottle. It is made at the Valleyfield distillery in Quebec.
The blend dates from 1913, when William Hortop created it as a family whisky for Thomas Seagram's wedding celebration. VO stands for Very Own. Corn, barley and rye whiskies are distilled and aged separately before being married together.
The nose is grainy and sweet with spicy wood, overripe pineapple and banana, vanilla and caramel. The palate is sweet with caramel and pear, then dry oak and brown baking spices. The finish carries ginger cake and cedar, with a mild bitter edge.
