Shenk's Homestead – Kentucky Sour Mash (2023) (45.6%)

Shenk's Homestead Kentucky Sour Mash is a small batch Kentucky whisky, bottled at 91.2 proof. It honours John Shenk, who founded a distillery in 1753 that later became known as Michter's. It is made by the sour mash method, with malted rye in the recipe of this 2023 release. Part was aged in air-dried wood with a signature toast and char, and part in specially toasted French oak from the Vosges. Dark amber in colour, it has a nose of toffee, spice and vanilla. The palate brings smooth spice, dried fruit and honey, and the finish is smooth and flavoursome.
