Shenk's Homestead 2025 is a small batch Kentucky sour mash whiskey, released annually as part of the Michter's Legacy Series. It is bottled at 45.6% ABV (91.2 proof) in a 70cl bottle. It honours John Shenk, who founded a Pennsylvania distillery in 1753.
The mash bill is not disclosed, but the 2025 release is made with a significant amount of rye. Part of the matured whiskey was finished in toasted French oak barrels from the Vosges, left uncharred. It is neither a bourbon nor a rye whiskey, and carries the Kentucky Sour Mash Whiskey designation.
The nose offers burnt sugar, warming spice and honey. The palate has baking spice, dried fruit, toffee and nougat. The finish is smooth, with persistent baking spice.
