A Japanese pure malt, which is the local term for a blended malt: malt whiskies only, with no grain whisky. It is bottled at 43% in a 750ml bottle, without chill filtration or added colour.
The whisky is matured in ex-sherry and ex-bourbon hogsheads, then finished in Japanese Mizunara oak. The peat is kept light so the finish stays in view. It comes from the Shinobu distillery in Niigata, on the Sea of Japan coast, where Ken Usami of the Niigata Beer Company makes it.
The nose is minty and creamy with light peat, lemon and a hint of charcoal ash. The palate has toasted oak, dry grass and a touch of salt, and the finish is medium in length, with toasted wood and vanilla.
