This is the 2024 edition of Shizuoka Pot Still W, a Japanese single malt in a 50cl bottle at 55.5% ABV. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour.
Shizuoka Distillery was founded in 2016 and has been operating since 2018, partly using equipment from the Karuizawa distillery. The W still is heated by direct wood fire. This whisky was distilled mainly from unpeated malt from Scotland and Germany, all of it imported barley, and matured in ex-bourbon casks.
The nose brings marshmallow, bread dough, mango and roasted pear. The palate is dry with vanilla, orange, banana and a touch of mango, and the finish is warm and spicy with fruit and a hint of peat.
