Shizuoka – Pot Still W Japanese Barley 1st Edition 2023 (70cl, 55.5%)

Shizuoka Pot Still W Japanese Barley 1st Edition is a single malt made from 100% Japanese barley, distilled in 2023 at the Shizuoka distillery and bottled at 55.5%. The W still is fired directly with wood from mountain conifers of Shizuoka, cut by local woodcutters. Direct firing lets temperatures reach up to 800°C, against around 150°C with steam, which gives a powerful, rich spirit as it leaves the still. Japanese barley yields less and costs more to produce, but it is central to the Shizuoka style.
