Smögen – 2012/2020 8 Year Old Heavily Peated Swedish Single Malt (50cl, 59.8%)

This is an 8 year old heavily peated single malt from the Smögen distillery on Sweden's west coast, distilled in 2012 and bottled in October 2020 at a cask strength of 59.8% ABV. It comes in a 50cl bottle, is not coloured or chill-filtered. The whisky was matured in seven first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and one ex-sherry hogshead. Peated malt gives it strong smoke alongside maritime notes and a clearly malty character. The nose offers peat smoke, pear, vanilla, citrus, tar and fine nutty notes. On the palate it is powerful and oily, with smoke, malt, liquorice, vanilla, nuts and citrus fruit. The finish is long, smoky and spicy, with dry oak and malty sweetness.
