High Voltage is an Islay single malt from Smokehead, bottled by Ian MacLeod Distillers at 58%. It sits in the Islay-style range the brand is known for, with a good deal more strength than the others. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colouring.
The nose is intense and fresh, with citrus, a chilli-like heat, dense peat smoke, a salty sea breeze and light vanilla and caramel sweetness. The palate is billowing peat smoke that fills the mouth, and once it settles, nuts, a maple-syrup-like sweetness and lemongrass appear, with some salt and a maritime note. The finish is long, with lingering beach campfire smoke and some pepper.
