Southern Star Double Rye Whiskey

This is a rye whiskey from Southern Distilling Company, made by blending two straight rye whiskeys and finishing the result in bourbon barrels. Its colour is amber to honey gold. Half of the net profit from sales of the Double Rye goes to Purple Heart Homes, which provides housing for disabled and ageing veterans. A group of veterans from the charity helped develop the tasting notes in August 2020. The nose is warm and caramelly with a gentle sweetness and a cinnamon spice. The palate is herbaceous and citrusy, with a warming sizzle that settles into vanilla sweetness. The finish is of moderate length.
