Springbank – 18 Year Old 2014 Black Box Purple (70cl, 46%)

This is the 2014 release of Springbank 18 Year Old, a Campbeltown single malt in a black box, bottled at 46% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It was distilled in 1996 and bottled in 2014, with an outturn of 9,000 bottles. Around 80% of the whisky matured in ex-sherry casks and 20% in ex-bourbon casks. The nose combines sherry, caramel, raisins, vanilla and plums with a salty sea breeze and peat smoke. On the palate come sherry, oak, caramel, spice, salt, dark chocolate and peat. The finish is long and mouth-filling.
