Local Barley is an annual Springbank release made with barley grown in or around Campbeltown, grown each year by a local farmer commissioned for the purpose. This bottling was distilled in 2010 and bottled in 2023, at 13 years old.
The whisky matured in a mix of 60% bourbon and 40% sherry casks.
The nose is fruity, with ripe bananas, boiled sweets and cinnamon. The palate is thick, chewy and oily, with pepper and malt followed by strawberries, brandy schnapps and parma violets. In the finish, subtle peat smoke sits in the background alongside wine gums, toasted oats, dunnage earthiness and a slight dryness.
