Starward – Fortis American Oak Red Wine Barrels (70cl, 50%)

Fortis is an Australian single malt from Starward, bottled at 50% in a 70cl bottle and non-chill filtered. It is fully matured in American oak red wine barrels, mostly sourced from the Barossa Valley, which previously held cabernet and shiraz. The barrels give a fuller, richer mouthfeel. Fortis is blended in batches, so each batch is unique while keeping the same core flavour and intensity. The nose has Madagascan vanilla pods, toasted American oak, blackberry jam, raisins, caramelised fig and overripe plums. The palate brings vanilla, quince paste, Muscadelle raisins, chocolate ganache, cinnamon and baked banana bread. The finish is viscous and long, with baking spices and ripe figs and raisins.
