Starward – Single Barrel Captain's Pick #2

This is the second release in Starward's series of single barrel picks chosen by founder David Vitale. It is an Australian single malt, first filled into an American oak red wine barrel in 2016. The whisky then spent a further year in a heavily charred American oak hogshead. The notes describe candied red fruits from the barrels and tropical notes from the new make spirit. On the nose there are red berries and orchard fruit with soft oak spice. The palate is like a rich red berry pudding with vanilla, caramel and spice, and the finish is balanced and long.
