Stauning Rye is a Danish rye whisky from Skjern in Jutland, bottled at 48% in a 750ml bottle. The mashbill is 51% malted rye and 49% malted barley, all of it floor malted at the distillery.
The wash is double distilled in small direct-fired copper pot stills, and the spirit is matured in virgin American white oak. It was a category winner at the 2021 World Whiskies Awards and won gold at the International Wine & Spirits Competition that year.
The nose is fresh rye bread, overripe pear and yellow apple. The palate brings malted rye, dried fruit, cherry, espresso and caraway. The finish is long and toasty, with allspice, clove and barrel char.
