Stonewood 5 Year Old is a German single malt, bottled by Malts of Germany as Batch 2 at 49.6% in a 70cl bottle. It was made at the family-run Schraml distillery in Erbendorf, which has been making whisky since 1954.
It matured in American white oak and Oloroso sherry casks. The edition is limited to 1,386 bottles, and the whisky is non-chill-filtered, uncoloured and not smoky.
The nose is rich and layered, with ripe yellow fruit, a touch of blueberry, light nougat, spice and citrus. The palate is full and malty-sweet, with vanilla and caramel and a peppery edge. The long finish opens fruity, then turns spicy, with liquorice most noticeable.
