Strathisla – 30 Years Old 1989 Wilson & Morgan Oloroso Sherry Finish (Bottled 2019) (70cl, 54.2%)

This is a 30 year old Strathisla from Speyside, distilled in 1989 and bottled in 2019 by Wilson & Morgan at 54.2% in a 70cl bottle. It has an Oloroso sherry finish. The sherry influence is only a hint, from second fill casks, so the dry maltiness and the biscuity, tight profile of the distillery stay at the front. Strathisla has long played an important role in blends, thanks to its firm body and cereal-rich character. Tasting notes describe a mineral, waxy and rather peppery whisky with fresh orange peel, touches of butter biscuits and honey, and a return to peppery dryness.
